SILVER JEWELLERY CARE
Preserving the beauty and shine of your sterling silver

1. DAILY WEAR & PROTECTION
Sterling silver naturally tarnishes when exposed to salty air, chlorine, sulfur, humidity, perspiration,
cosmetics, household bleach, and other strong chemicals. To prevent tarnish as much as possible, we
recommend that you store your fine jewellery in a safe, dry place when engaging in the following
activities:
Showering, bathing, or swimming in pools, hot tubs, hot springs, and the ocean.
Applying lotion, hair products, fragrances, and other cosmetics.
Exercising at the gym or during contact sports.
Preparing meals or doing household chores.
Rule of thumb: Your jewellery should be the last thing you put on before leaving the house, and the
first thing you take off when you return.

2. PROPER STORAGE
Proper storage is essential to keeping your silver jewellery looking its best and minimizing oxidation.
Keep it Dry: Store your silver in a cool, dark, and dry place. Moisture encourages tarnishing.
Individual Pouches: Store pieces individually in soft velvet or cotton pouches, or
compartmentalized jewellery boxes to prevent scratching and tangling.
Airtight Bags: If you plan to store your jewellery for an extended period, place it in an airtight ziplock
bag. Squeeze out all the air before sealing to prevent oxidation.
Anti-Tarnish Strips: Consider adding an anti-tarnish strip to your jewellery box or bag to absorb the
oxidants that cause discoloration.

3. CLEANING & POLISHING
With regular wear and exposure to the environment, silver will naturally tarnish over time. Here is how to
safely restore its original shine:
Polishing Cloth: Use a specialized silver polishing cloth to gently rub the silver. This is the safest
way to clean lightly tarnished silver and restore its brilliance.
Soap & Water: For deeper cleaning, mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water. Gently
wash the piece, rinse thoroughly with clean water, and dry completely with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Avoid Harsh Methods: Do not use toothpaste or harsh baking soda pastes to clean your jewellery,
as these are abrasive and can scratch the surface of the silver. Avoid chemical liquid dips, which can
strip away intentional antique oxidation and damage softer gemstones.

4. GEMSTONES & PEARLS
If your silver jewellery features gemstones, pearls, or enamel, take extra care. Porous stones like
turquoise, pearls, and opals should never be submerged in water, ultrasonic cleaners, or exposed to
harsh cleaning solutions. Clean these delicate pieces strictly by wiping them with a soft, dry or slightly
damp cloth.
